Borders General Hospital – April 2018

We were commissioned to install a new road safety scheme outside the Borders General Hospital following a number of accidents in recent years. The A6091 Melrose Bypass junction has been an accident blackspot over the past couple of decades, so a new traffic light system has been installed, along with other measures, to improve the flow of vehicles.

The new road layout includes a new ‘hurry call’ system to improve the flow of traffic outside Borders General Hospital and allow a faster entry and exit for ambulances.

The scheme, which has been designed as part of Transport Scotland’s Strategic Road Safety Project, will contribute to the Scottish Government’s 2020 accident reduction targets.
